Happy Birthday Rotary (and DGE Bert Olson)

Its February 23, 2010 do you know what Paul Harris was doing 105 years ago? Thats right - becoming Rotary's first club president and here you are on your way to being a Rotary Club President.

First of all, congratulations on being chosen by your club to offer your leadership and vision to your club, community and the world.  Secondly, thank you for being willing to serve as club president.

Between now and when we meet in person in Chamberlain I hope you find the series of emails helpful.  I have spent a great deal of time reviewing the materials from Rotary and developing this PETS eCOURSE.   This is a first for our district and it is my goal to have you better prepared for our meeting at Cedar Shores.  You will receive periodical emails with information that will be helpful for you to read and understand.  You need to have a basic understanding how Rotary International, The Rotary Foundation, District 5610 and your club works in order for you to be a successful club president.

In everything I set out to accomplish I have the end result in mind first.  The positive outcome that I am after from this eCourse is that you, as a club president, have the knowledge and drive to make this the best year your club has ever seen.  I am going to accomplish this by presenting Rotary specific information that you should read and learn.  I will also ask that you memorize some basic Rotary facts. Nothing too complex or hard, but things you should now about the organization you belong to.  First fact to remember:  Rotary was founded by Paul Harris on February 23, 1905. That's the first and last history lesson.  From now one we will focus on the present.

Again, thank you for agreeing to serve as a club president.  Trust me - this year is going to be a blast.

Brad Bonner, District 5610 Trainer
Denison, Iowa
